♦ Méd. Pyodermite caractérisée par des pustules dont le centre se recouvre d'une croûte masquant une ulcération.

MÉD. PATHOL. (dermatologie). Affection cutanée, caractérisée par une éruption pustuleuse et ulcéreuse, dont le principal agent est le streptocoque. Ecthyma gangréneux, syphilitique. Synon. partiel impétigo, pyodermite. Il m'arrivait de me cogner, de m'écorcher; une éruption d'ecthyma m'avait défigurée : un médecin brûlait mes pustules avec du nitrate d'argent (BEAUVOIR, Mém. j. fille, 1958, p. 18).
Rem. On rencontre ds la docum. ecthymateux, euse, adj. Relatif à l'ecthyma. La surface est suppurante, recouverte d'une croûte dans le chancre ecthymateux (Nicolas ds Nouv. Traité Méd., fasc. 4, 1925, p. 615).
